Program and Network Settings for Windows Millenium Edition

Problem: Each workstation that will be running the TOPPSoft Truck Accessory Suite of programs under Windows ME must have certain environment settings to run properly.

Solution:

CAUTION: Be sure to backup any files you change in case you need to recover them any time in the future. If you are unsure about how to backup your files, contact an experienced computer professional for assistance.

In the SYSTEM.INI file, the following line should be present in the [386enh] section.

PerVMFiles=220

This command provides sufficient file handles for CAP TRACKER!, ACCESSORY PACK!, and POS INTEGRATOR!.

If this line is already present, change the number on the existing line to match the above value. Keep other existing lines intact.

Networking
If you are working on a network or plan to use a network printer for report or invoice printing, you'll need to use a batch file to call the programs from each station on the network. Following is an example batch file to use as a model. All text in RED ITALICS should be substituted with values specific to your network installation.

NET USE LPT1: /D
NET USE LPT2: /D
NET USE F: /D
NET USE LPT1: \\SERVER\ReportPrinter
NET USE LPT2: \\SERVER\InvoicePrinter
NET USE F: \\SERVER\CT
F:
POS.EXE

Change your shortcuts to use the batch file instead of calling the program directly. The above example calls the POS Integrator Program after connecting the F Drive, and both printers on the server.

Recommended icon property settings
Program Tab: Check Close on Exit
Screen Tab: Usage should be full-screen.
Memory Tab: All items should be set to auto.
Misc Tab

1. 1. Under Background, uncheck always suspend
2. Under Windows shortcut keys, uncheck Ctrl+Esc and PrtSc

Printer Settings
To prevent the message ERROR ON DISK "৸" when printing from ACCESSORY PACK or other associated programs, make the following change:

1. Click on START
2. Go to SETTINGS
3. Go to PRINTER
4. RIGHT click on the printer that you use
5. Click on PROPERTIES
6. Click on the DETAILS tab at the top of the window
7. Near the bottom of the window, click the PORT SETTINGS button
8. Locate the SPOOL MS-DOS PRINT JOBS box
9. UNCHECK the box
10. Press OK on each open window to save the new setting
